Hillsboro Woman Bats Alleged Drug Supplier

A mother, who tried to protect her son from heroin, faces assault charges.

Sherrie Gavan, of Hillsboro, faces assault charges after she confronted a 21-year-old man who allegedly supplied heroin to her son.

Gavan, who was in Jefferson County Court on Monday, learned she could spend a year in jail, says the stltoday.com website.

Gavan is a parent who lives in an era of cell phones when people can contact each other regardless of distance.

Though her 18-year-old son's cell phone text messages, she learned that he was using heroin, the website said.

She sent her son to live with a relative and gave the messages to the police. The allegeded drug suppliers called Gavin's son although he no longer lived at home.

When Gavin confronted one of the man who called her son, she hit him with an aluminium baseball bat. The stltoday.com website says there are different descriptions of the confrontation's sequence of events.
