IRS, AARP Offer Free Tax Help Today and Saturday

Face-to-face tax help is available, today and Saturday, to Arnold residents who earn less than $49,000 a year or are age 60 years or older.

There are four IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers with walk-in services in the St. Louis area, IRS spokesman Michael Devine said via email.

Arnold residents can go to the following Internal Revenue Service locations for help.

• 1222 Spruce St., St. Louis  
• 1122 Town and Country Commons, Chesterfield
• 111 Corporate Office Dr., Earth City
• 380 Fountain Office Court, Fairview Heights, IL

The centers in St. Louis and Earth City will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Help is available on a first-come first-served basis, Devine said.

Additional centers in the St. Louis area, which are listed below, will also be open on Saturday, the IRS website said. 

The centers are usually open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, he said.

Certified volunteers in the IRS Volunteer-Income Tax Assistance program prepare basic tax forms and offer e-file services annually, the IRS website said.

No VITA programs exist in Jefferson County, the website said. 

The AARP also offers a free tax service, named Tax-Aide, to Arnold seniors and low- to moderate-income wage earners of all ages, the AARP website said.

First Baptist Church of Arnold, at 2012 Missouri State Road, is the only Tax-Aide location in the City of Arnold, the AARP website said. People wanting tax help should call 314-525-1660 for an appointment.

People should bring the following information to the VITA or AARP site to have their tax return prepared:

• Proof of identification
• Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents and/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration
• Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependents
• Proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN
• Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
• Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers
• Form 1099—Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
• A copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available
• Proof of bank account routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit, such as a blank check
• Total paid for day care provider and the day care provider's tax identifying number (the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business Employer Identification Number)
• To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
