Things to Do in Arnold: The Weekend of May 6-8

Warmer weather finally returns, as does some rain, but there are some things to enjoy in Arnold. If you're feeling adventurous a nationally acclaimed art show is in Sunset Hills.

Navigating the Online World — Students will learn essential mouse and keyboard functions the first week, then move on to internet searching skills and safety tips. The final class will cover how to use the library catalog and website effectively. The class is in three parts, from 9:30 to noon on May 6, 13 and 20. You must be able to attend all three classes to enroll.

  • Free Jefferson County Library offers a free computer literacy class for people completely new to the world of computers.Registration is required, and priority given first to library district residents, then to non-resident card holders. Class size is limited to 10 students. Non-resident non-cardholders will be placed on a waiting list and notified if a space becomes available.

AARP Driver Safety Course — A refresher driving course for seniors. Learn to drive defensively, deal with aggressive drivers, handle difficult driving conditions and adjust to vision and hearing loss. The course will also cover new traffic laws and auto technology like anti-lock breaks, air bags and safety belts.

  • Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Check with your insurance provider, they may offer a discount to seniors who complete the safety course.

Arnold Library Chess Club — Solving strategic problems, such as those in chess, can help children solve their own problems and succeed as they grow older. Chess enthusiasts of all skill levels are invited to Chess Club at Arnold Library. Whether you are a complete novice, a beginner looking to hone your skills or an advanced player looking for a challenge, you will find the perfect match here. Bring your own board and your thinking cap, and meet in the Life Change Cafe on the first Saturday of every month.

Don't Lick the Dog: A Story Time About Dogs — In honor of Pet Week, Arnold Library is holding a special story time about dogs. All ages are welcome to  listen to stories about man's best friend, and even share pet care tips. Registration requested.

Art Fair at Laumeier Sculpture Park in Sunset Hills, MO — A nationally acclaimed juried show featuring works for sale in fiber/textiles, mixed media, ceramics, printmaking/drawing, glass, jewelry, photography/digital, wood and sculpture. Also the Art of the Vine wine tasting Friday evening, musical entertainment throughout the weekend, the Sunset Hills Music Festival Saturday includes performances by Erin Bode and Acousik Element, demonstrations and hands-on art activities for children. Food and drink will be sold by various vendors.
