Would-Be Copper Thief Causes $17,500 in Damage

Arnold Police Department supplied the following information for Thursday's crime report. Arrests or charges mentioned in this report do not indicate convictions.

Here are a few of the crimes that occurred May 20 through 24 in the City of Arnold.

Arnold Patch obtained the accounts from the Arnold Police Department.

May 24

Stealing: A person reported someone broke into his 1998 Mercury and stole his CD player and sunglasses, on Fenwick Place. He reported the total value as $220.

Driving While Intoxicated: A man was arrested during a traffic stop on Tony Drive at Rose Drive. The police officer arrested a 24-year-old St. Charles man for Driving While Intoxicated. His blood alcohol content was .102-percent.

May 21

Fugitive Arrest: A man was found sleeping inside a store at Arnold Commons. When police woke the 38-year-old sleeping man, he ran from the store and across the parking lot. He had active felony probation warrants with other agencies and was arrested.

Possession of Controlled Substance: Police were called to check on two people sitting in a car on Jeffco Blvd. Officers found out the car driver as in possession of synthetic marijuana. He was arrested.

May 20

Property Damage: Officers responded to an incident on Richardson Square Drive. The victim said people cut the large electric lines that lead from the pole to their building in efforts to steal the copper wire. After it was discovered the wire was aluminum, the would-be thief ran away. It will cost about $5,500 to rebuild.

Property Damage: Police also discovered cut wires at La Petite Academy. Officers discovered the wires leading from the electric pole to the above business had been cut. The repairmen on site said he thought whoever stole the wire, may have been injured when wires were cut. None of the copper wire was stolen. Repairs are estimated at $12,000.00
