Aldermen Approve Permit For Deer Bow Hunting Near Six Flags

A guest requested permission to bow hunt deer on Six Flags property, away from the theme park, at the Eureka Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday night. 

The applicant presented the board with a letter of permission from Six Flags to hunt on a particular area of the property. 

The board granted the permit.

"We used to be able to bow hunt but the last five years we have not," the applicant, who is also a Six Flags employee, said. "Now that we are able to again, we have to obtain permission from (the Board)."

In the past five years Six Flags did not allow hunting on its property, the applicant said. "Now Six Flags has opened that up because they're having a deer problem with them coming into the park."

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, archers may hunt deer from Sept. 15 to Nov. 15, 2013, and again Nov. 27, 2013 to Jan. 15, 2014.

People wishing to hunt deer on Six Flags property need to obtain permission from the Six Flags St. Louis Park President and then receive approval from the Eureka Board of Aldermen.

"We approved the permit for bow hunting," Mayor Kevin Coffey confirmed after the Aldermen meeting. "Just that individual. Every individual would have to come up here and apply, and they have to have permission from Six Flags. They have to show us that they are in in a safe spot, hunting in a safe method."

Tuesday night's applicant will be in a tree stand shooting down away from homes, Coffey said.

Six Flags owns several hundred acres, Coffey said, and there used to be several hunters up there each season but not in the past few years.

In the Board's other business Tuesday night, it granted a temporary liquor license for Lukemia Ironman Fundraiser for Eric, Inc., which has a 5k Women's Mud Run for Cancer scheduled at Six Flags St. Louis on August 17.

The Board also approved special event applications for Shelter Insurance's grand opening, which will have a barbecue and concert on August 2 at 207 South Central Avenue, and a separate application for a Green Beret Casualty Fund Benefit at the end of August.
