Bulgarian Cucumbers Growing Big Fanbase in Wildwood

In a couple of weeks, the produce stand at Zick's Great Outdoors Nursery and Landscaping will be featuring an unusual yet popular bumper crop. 

Company Vice President Paul Swanstrom said that's when their Bulgarian Cucumbers will be ready for harvest. The cucumbers are grown and cared for by several employees of the business who are from the Eastern European country.

They bring seeds back with them from yearly visits to Bulgaria and Swanstrom said they always go fast once they are grown. He described the taste as even more crisp than a normal cucumber and said they are popular in salads or as a standalone snack. 

Although preferable to last year's scorching heat, Swanstrom said the heavy rains this spring have meant a delay in planting, and therefore harvesting, for local growers and farmers.
