Just a reminder for back to school shopping:Β Missouri's back to school sales tax holidayΒ is next month.

Just saw these signs in a store window and it was a great reminder!

Here are five pieces of information on theΒ Missouri Department of Revenue's websiteΒ that might help if you plan to buy back-to-school items for the upcoming school year.

  1. The sales tax holiday in Missouri isΒ Friday, Aug. 2 - Sunday, Aug. 4.
  2. Some items, including clothing, school supplies and computers are exempt from sales tax for this time period.Β
  3. You can find aΒ list of cities hereΒ that have opted out of participating in the tax-free weekend. Neither Eureka nor WildwoodΒ is onΒ this list. This means state sales tax will still be waved at stores, along withΒ city sales tax.
  4. St. Louis County is participating in the sales tax holiday. Find countiesΒ which opted out here.
  5. The sales tax exemption is limited to:
    • Clothing – any article having a taxable value of $100 or less
    • School supplies – not to exceed $50 per purchase
    • Computer software – taxable value of $350 or less
    • Personal computers – not to exceed $3,500
    • Computer peripheral devices – not to exceed $3,500
(Find more details on the sales tax holiday here.)
