Fenton's 175th Birthday Party is Taking Shape With a Bubble Bus

"Fenton Days . . . A celebration of 175 Years" is coming together as a big citywide celebration that will include game booths, food, contests and the dedication of the new Meramec River Bridge - and fireworks.

It takes a lot to put together a major community festival and the organizers of the Fenton Days 175th birthday party on Aug. 25 are relying on local participants and more to make the event a success. The Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce recently released a schedule of the activities so far, including:

  • 1-2 p.m. - New Bridge Dedication
  • 2-4 p.m. - Tekno Bubble Bus
  • 2-5 p.m. - "Liquid Gold" Band
  • 2-5 p.m. - Sammy J Balloon Creations
  • 3-8 p.m. - "Olde Towne" Washers Tournament
  • 3-5 p.m. - Dairy Queen Ice Cream Contest
  • 6-9 p.m. - "Bob Kuban Band
  • 9 p.m. - Fireworks

The bridge dedication will mark the end of a long construction period for the new span, a project that was necessitated when the prior bridge was deemed unsafe and subsequentlt torn down. Although the new bridge won't open to traffic until Aug. 27, it will be the star of the Fenton Days show as its completion is marked by the 1 p.m. ceremony.

The Techno Bubble Bus is a new attraction to Fenton and organizers believe it will be popular with everyone at the festival. The Bubble Bus will feature bubbles of all sizes and even has blacklight bubbles for nighttime effects. The psychedelic bus will be easy to spot on the festival grounds in Olde Towne Fenton near one end of the new bridge.
