SCC Psychology Department Hosts Stress Lecture

The SCC Psychology Department will host a lecture titled “Well-Balanced: An Approach to Stress Management” at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at St. Charles Community College.

Vi Rajagopalan, SCC associate professor of psychology, and Sharon L. Thornton, director of Lyndell Institute in St. Peters, will co-present the lecture. Rajagopalan, an experienced psychologist, will talk about her combined findings on cognitive psychology with Eastern methods of stress management. She will detail simple steps to create a balanced mind that can take on stressors. Thornton will discuss the classes she offers in Tae Kwon Do, yoga and hypnotherapy and how they address a well-balanced life.

“Being well-balanced is best described as an approach that facilitates a healthy mindset to help cope with life-challenges,” Rajagopalan said. “I want to share this approach with others, and I hope they find the ideas useful in managing stressful events in their life.”

The lecture will take place in the Daniel J. Conoyer Social Sciences Building auditorium on the SCC campus, located at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville. The lecture, organized by the SCC Psychology Department, is free and open to the public.
