📰 News we're reading

1. Vacant building damages neighbor's home, leaves a hole in the roof (firstalert4.com) — A long-problematic vacant building in south St. Louis’ Marine Villa neighborhood shed bricks during Thursday’s high winds, punching a hole in neighbor Karen Mitchell’s roof and damaging her son’s bedroom. The property has been condemned and is already the subject of a neighborhood-backed lawsuit, while the city plans another inspection and Mitchell scrambles to afford urgent repairs she believes she shouldn’t have to cover.

2. Public Enemy to join Guns N' Roses at Busch Stadium (stlamerican.com) — A massive 2026 concert is headed to Busch Stadium, with Guns N’ Roses bringing Public Enemy as a special guest on August 16 and tickets already on sale. The show builds on Chuck D and Public Enemy’s growing connection to St. Louis, from a Forest Park festival set to a Grand Center gallery exhibition celebrating the city’s creative energy.

3. Man dies weeks after shooting (firstalert4.com) — St. Louis police say a 71-year-old man has died weeks after he and another man were shot inside a home on the 4500 block of Alice. Investigators believe an argument with a suspect inside the residence led to gunfire, and they’re asking anyone with information to contact District 6 detectives or CrimeStoppers anonymously for a possible cash reward.

4. What Makes St. Louis-Style Pizza So Unique (And So Controversial)? (chowhound.com) — St. Louis-style pizza, with its cracker-thin crust, sweet sauce, and famously polarizing Provel cheese, inspires strong opinions from locals and outsiders alike. The story explores why many residents adore this bar-room staple while some critics, including chef Andrew Zimmern, just can’t get past the smoky, creamy cheese that defines it.
