Specialist Zack Pollard convinced his girlfriend Kaitlin Hampton to come to the Warrenton National Guard Armory to watch him get a military award.
Instead, he proposed to her in front of the 3175th Military Police Company on March 5, according to a press release from the Missouri National Guard.
Pollard, 24, has known Hampton, 21, for five years. The pair met through Hampton's sister who was dating Pollard's best friend.
