Fire in St. Charles Duplex Sends Man to Hospital

A St. Charles man was burned in a fire in a duplex located in the 3300 block of Elm Street Thursday afternoon, according to Capt. Dan Casey of the S

The man was injured while trying to escape from his second-story bedroom, which is where the fire is suspected to have started. Two other family members also escaped form the home before fire fighters arrived, according to the press release.

The man was taken to for his injuries, which Casey described as not life-threatening. Fire fighters were not able to rescue the pet cat, who was found in the upstairs bedroom.

Although fire fighters put out the fire in less than 30 minutes, the damage to the duplex was estimated at more than $50,000. It was deemed uninhabitable, although the other half of the duplex suffered minimal damage, according to Casey. 

Red Cross was helping the seven people who lived in the home.
