St. Charles Participates in Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday
Clothing, school supplies and computers are eligible for a state sales tax break and from a local sales tax break in participating cities Aug. 2-4.

Back-to-school shoppers can stock up on clothing, computers and other school supplies this weekend and get a break on sales tax.
The 2013 Missouri sales tax holiday will be Aug. 2 to 4. During this time, certain purchases are exempt from state sales tax and local sales tax, if jurisdictions choose to participate.
St. Charles, O'Fallon, Cottleville, Dardenne Prairie and Lake Saint Louis are participating in the tax holiday this year. St. Peters, which is where Mid Rivers Mall is located, will not participate.
Other cities that declined to participate include: Bridgeton, Brentwood, Clayton, Des Peres (home of West County Mall), Ellisville, Frontenac, Kirkwood, Ladue, Manchester, Maplewood, Overland, Richmond Heights (home of the Galleria), Town and Country, Webster Groves.
Items that are eligible for the tax break are:
- Clothing that costs less than $100.
- School supplies, less than $50 per purchase. (Includes textbooks, notebooks, crayons, art supplies, calculators, maps, globes, backpacks, among others).
- Computer software valued at $350 and less.
- Personal computers valued at $3,500 and less, including laptop, desktop, computer systems, mouse and mouse pads, printers and other hardware.
- Computer peripheral devices that cannot exceed $3,500.
