Here are the top three stories in St. Louis today:
- A teen was shot and killed by a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officer on Sunday night. The incident occurred at a gas station on North Florissant Avenue in the 2800 block. The 16-year-old had fled from officers, then tripped and dropped his weapon. Officers fired at the teen when he reached for the weapon, according to the department. (KSDK.com)
- There are four Republicans vying for the open candidate slot to run against St. Louis County Sam Page. The party's slot opened up when primary election winner Katherine Pinner suddenly dropped out. The identities of the four potential candidates are not being released until the Republican Central Committee meeting. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
- Today's special election is the state's first election with the new voter identification law. The special election will determine the primary candidates for the St. Louis Board of Aldermen President position. The new law requires voters to present a current Missouri driver's license or government-issued ID to cast a ballot. In the past, a student ID and voter registration cards were enough to vote.
