'We're just getting started:' City Foundry receives international honors for strengthening Midtown area (ksdk.com) — City Foundry in Midtown St. Louis just picked up a prestigious international retail development award, spotlighting its role in revitalizing the neighborhood and boosting the local economy. Developers say this is only phase one of a multi-decade plan, with more housing and mixed-use projects coming that aim to preserve historic structures while deepening investment in the St. Louis community.
   

2. St. Louis Mayor Spencer Announces New Directors of Personnel and Communications (riverbender.com) — St. Louis residents will see new leadership in City Hall as Mayor Cara Spencer appoints Brian Light as director of personnel and Holly Roberts as director of communications. Light will focus on strengthening the city workforce starting Jan. 12, while Roberts, beginning remotely Jan. 19, will lead communications with an emphasis on transparency and engagement with St. Louis communities.

Metro East police chase in ends in fatal crash on I-70 in St. Louis (jg-tc.com) — A police pursuit that began in Fairmont City, Illinois ended in a fatal one-car crash on I-70 near West Florissant Avenue in St. Louis, shutting down the highway for hours. St. Louis police are investigating how the chase crossed the river and what led to the deadly wreck that disrupted a major commuter route.
   

4. Wheelhouse bar announces closure after 11 years downtown (firstalert4.com) — Downtown St. Louis is losing Wheelhouse, the busy bar and restaurant by Busch Stadium, right after its New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 31. After 11 years, owners are thanking patrons, while neighbors and police reflect on both the nightlife energy and frequent disturbance calls tied to the late-night hotspot.

Neighbors in mourning after girl dies following shooting and house fire in north St. Louis, mother in critical condition (firstalert4.com) — North St. Louis neighbors are grieving after 9-year-old Paige Buckner died from gunshot wounds following a house fire on Floy Avenue, while her mother remains in critical, unstable condition. Police say homicide detectives are pursuing several leads, and residents in Walnut Park West are calling for unity and an end to neighborhood violence.
