Ameren Plans 1,200 Charging Stations For Electric Vehicles In MO

The St. Louis-based utility company will invest $11 million to build the charging stations across Missouri.

ST. LOUIS, MO — Ameren, a St. Louis-based utility company, plans to invest $11 million to create 1,200 electric vehicle charging stations across Missouri, according to a Missouri Public Service Commission filing. If approved, the plan would focus on workplace, family and public charging stations, including fast-charging stations near interstate highways, create incentives for electric construction vehicles and forklifts, and improve existing electric infrastructure through line extensions.

“Our Charge Ahead program is designed with Missouri’s future in mind by eliminating the barriers for EV charging and promoting the use of more efficient and cleaner electric equipment in commercial settings and on our roads,” said Michael Moehn, president of Ameren Missouri. “At the same time, the program will help provide lower costs to customers, improve air quality by reducing emissions and help promote economic growth by ensuring Missouri maintains a competitive business environment.”

Ameren said its initiative will support the state's goal of transitioning to clean power while keeping energy prices affordable. In 2017, the company announced a billion-dollar investment to build wind turbines and solar power generators in Missouri and surrounding states over the next decade.
