  1. The spotlights illuminating the Gateway Arch will be turned off during the first two weeks of May in an effort to help migrating birds more easily find their way. Representatives from the National Park Service say 40 percent of the nation's migratory waterfowl use the Mississippi River corridor during migration, and turning off the lights will help limit confusion. They will go back on Sunday, May 15. (The Edwardsville Intelligencer)
  2. A local Powerball player hit the jackpot with a winning lottery ticket purchased at a Schnucks Market. The winning ticket was bought at the grocery's location on Arsenal Street, and lottery officials say the chances of winning the $50,000 prize are one in 913,129.   3. The St. Louis Business Journal's annual awards program is seeking nominations of influential businesswomen.
