Attorney General Sues Bel-Ridge For Sunshine Violations

"Governmental transparency is a key tenet of democracy," Hawley said.

BEL-RIDGE, MO — Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, a Republican, has filed suit against the city of Bel-Ridge, Missouri, located in north St. Louis County, accusing the city's government of violating the state's Sunshine Law. The city, Hawley said, repeatedly failed to provide proper notice of meetings and kept the public out of meetings that should have been open.

“Governmental transparency is a key tenet of democracy,” Hawley said in a news release. “Missouri’s Sunshine Law exists so that Missourians can know that their government is working for them. My office has made fighting for transparency a priority. Those who violate our state open records laws should recognize that on my watch, they will be prosecuted for violating this trust.”

Hawley has previously filed suit against St. Louis County for similar reasons.
