Boy, 9, Shot At Bus Stop Over Presidents Day Weekend

ST. LOUIS, MO — Police in St. Louis say a 9-year-old boy was shot at a bus stop near the intersection of North Grand Boulevard and Montgomery Street Sunday afternoon. He was taken to Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center where his condition is unknown.

The boy's mother, who was waiting at the bus stop with her three children, told the Post-Dispatch that she heard gunshots and noticed her oldest child had been hit in the lower back.

Police have not released any information about a suspect. Gun violence in St. Louis reached epidemic proportions last year as the city cracked a 25-year record for murders. Accounting for population, St. Louis ranks third for homicides in the United States, behind only Detroit and New Orleans, according to data from the FBI. St. Louis ranks first for non-fatal shootings, according to the Major Cities Chiefs Association, with more than seven times as many shootings as Chicago, per capita.
