Jones visited City of St. Louis Streets Department workers at shift change as crews continued their important work salting and plowing city streets.

Today, Mayor Tishaura O. Jones visited City of St. Louis Streets Department workers at shift change as crews continued their important work salting and plowing city streets. Crews were out beginning at 12:30am this morning and have been working since to clear roads. The city continues to warn residents to stay home, avoid unnecessary travel at this time, and visit stlouis-mo.gov/cold for snow route maps, resources and updates.

“Our snow crews have some of the toughest work in City government,” said Mayor Tishaura O. Jones. “I’m thankful for their service to the citizens of St. Louis to help everyone navigate the city safely. We will continue to monitor conditions throughout the winter storm warning and are working hard to keep our city safe. I remind St. Louisans to avoid unnecessary travel during this time as we work to clear our roads.”

As a token of the city’s collective gratitude, Mayor Jones brought Streets Department workers World’s Fair Donuts, exchanged fist bumps and conversation with the drivers, and talked with Director Betherny Williams about conditions heading into the late afternoon. Street crews will continue salting and plowing throughout the snow event. A list of St. Louis’ 450 linear miles of snow routes can be found on the city’s website, and residents are urged to avoid parking on snow routes. City Hall and other city buildings have been closed for public business through and including Thursday, February 4. Essential workers and public safety personnel continue to operate at full staff.

If travel is absolutely necessary, the City joins the NWS St. Louis in recommending commuters begin their travel with a full tank of gas and carry a winter storm kit which includes a shovel, flashlight, cellphone, food and water, blankets, and extra warm clothing. Plan for a slower-than-normal trip. Be extremely cautious when approaching bridges, exit ramps, overpasses, and curves in the road.
