Here are the top 3 stories today in St. Louis:

  1. A clerical error caused multiple cities in St. Louis County to miss out on thousands of dollars in tax revenue. County Treasurer Jody Patterson took responsibility for the error, which officials said may have been made by an employee who retired in September. The county says it expects to send the lost money to the affected municipalities sometime this month. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
  2. A former St. Louis police officer has been denied parole for his involvement in the death of a fellow officer. In 2019, former officer Nathaniel Hendren shot and killed Katlyn Alix in a game of Russian Roulette while he was on duty. Hendren pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and will now serve a full term through October 2024. (KMOV4)
  3. Registrations are officially open for the 13th Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition, which will see one lucky winner earn $8,000 toward a college scholarship. The competition is open to all high school students who live within 50 miles in any direction of the St. Louis Gateway Arch, and all talents are welcome. Registration will remain open until Jan. 2, 2023, and preliminary rounds will take place at Kirkwood High School on Feb. 4-5, 2023. (RiverBender.com)
