Here are the top three stories in St. Louis today:
- St. Louis County's legal appeal to a health regulation designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 has been denied by a state appeals court. The Kansas City-based Missouri Court of Appeals denied the request stating that the counties were disingenuous in the appeal. The County Executive's office reports that another appeal might be filed. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
- Missouri Governor Mike Parson has signed his name to a letter urging President Joe Biden to cancel his student loan forgiveness plan. St. Louis residents with student loans would get up to $20,000 in debt forgiven through the plan. The letter claims that individuals receiving the forgiveness are effectively irresponsible elitists. Click to read the full letter. (Riverfront Times)
- St. Louis' gas station at North Florissant and St. Louis Avenues in Old North St. Louis has been identified as a "public nuisance" by city officials. The location has been the target of at least 100 police calls since the start of 2022. The station was the site of a recent fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Real-time shot spotter cameras have been installed near the gas station.
