Here are the top three stories today in St. Louis:
- St. Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page has chosen two current employees to lead the county's Department of Public Health. Kate Donaldson and Dr. Jim Hinrichs will be acting co-directors of the department. Dr. Page will likely appoint a permanent director in the future. Dr. Khan led the department until his departure in July. (St. Louis Business Journal)
- Abortion-rights organizations are worried that the Missouri Attorney General's lawsuit with the City of St. Louis has been moved to the federal court system. If the city loses its case in federal court, it would have lasting effects on the rest of the country. With the current state of the Supreme Court, abortion-rights groups are worried that the case will further restrict abortion access. The change was requested by the city. (KTVI Fox 2 St. Louis)
- The Saint Louis Zoo's popular anaconda named J-Lo has died. The snake was staying at the zoo since 2010 after traveling from Guyana. The snake was put down humanely due to a severe tumor. She weighed about 210 pounds and was about 18 feet long. She was one of the largest anacondas in the country. (KTVI Fox 2 St. Louis)
