Here are the top 3 stories in St. Louis today:

  1. A report released Wednesday by a task force of local hospitals warns that a spike in flu cases across St. Louis is “posing significant challenges” for healthcare providers. The most recent data indicates that Missouri has already reported nearly 13,700 cases of flu and three flu-related deaths this season. Doctors are urging anyone over six months old to receive a flu vaccine. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
  2. A new rehabilitation center opened in south St. Louis County on Thursday. The center is designed to replace the existing Mercy Rehabilitation Services at Mercy Hospital South. The $37 million project houses two units for brain injuries and general rehab. (KTVI Fox 2 St. Louis)
  3. Police are investigating after a 50-year-old man was found shot to death Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the 1500 block of Hadley Street at what officials are calling a homeless encampment that was “otherwise unoccupied.” Police say the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds but have not yet identified a suspect in the case.
