Here are the top three stories in St. Louis today:

  1. The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced that it will be closing Interstate 44 overnight from Sep. 30 into Oct. 1. The closure is to allow crews to complete the new Big Bend bridge. The closure will start at 8:00 p.m. with all eastbound lanes closed by 9:00 p.m. All westbound lanes will be closed by 1:00 a.m. Expect significant slowdowns during the closure. (KSDK)
  2. On Thursday night, Cardinals reliever Ryan Helsley set the season record for Major League Baseball's fastest pitch. He clocked a 104-miles-per-hour pitch to Padres' Josh Bell in the eighth inning. Cardinals' Jordan Hicks previously held the record with a 103.8 mile per hour pitch. The pitch was not a fluke, Helsely threw 15 pitches over 100 miles per hour during Thursday's game. He currently has an ERA of 1.32 across 51 games this season. (KSDK)
  3. A group of St. Louis aldermen is proposing the hire of an outside garbage service to resolve the city's ongoing trash issues. Alderman Tom Oldenburg, representing the 16th Ward, is leading the proposal and is also calling for a partial refund of trash fees. A spokesperson for the mayor reports that the problem is getting better with pay raises, hiring bonuses, and a new recruitment campaign resulting in more staff. (Fox 2 Now)
