Illinois Police Officer Dead After Fall From Poplar Street Bridge
Authorities say 44-year-old Ricardo Davis fell from an on ramp around 11 p.m. as he chased a 19-year-old suspect who had fled his vehicle.

ST. LOUIS, MO — A Washington Park, Illinois, police officer is dead after falling from the Poplar Street Bridge Saturday night, KMOV reports.
Authorities say 44-year-old Ricardo Davis fell from an on ramp around 11 p.m. as he chased a 19-year-old suspect who had fled his vehicle. That suspect and another 19-year-old had crashed their SUV on the bridge after fleeing a traffic stop.

The Poplar Street Bridge has been under partial construction for several months. Davis reportedly tried to jump over a concrete barrier without realizing there was nothing on the other side and fell 50 feet, breaking both legs and suffering major internal injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Two teenagers were taken into custody.
