Legalize It? St. Louis Files Bill To Decriminalize Marijuana
Should St. Louis legalize marijuana? A city alderwoman thinks so, and she has introduced a bill to do it.

ST. LOUIS, MO — The city of St. Louis may soon join a growing list of states and municipalities that have legalized or decriminalized the use or possession of small amounts of marijuana. A new bill sponsored by 15th Ward alderwoman Megan Green would prevent police from using city resources to enforce laws prohibiting marijuana use or possession for anyone over the age of 21 — as long as they don't have more than two ounces or 10 plants. The bill would also prohibit hiring discrimination for anyone using the drug.
The Washington Post reported today that for the first time a majority of Americans in both parties say they support marijuana legalization, and proponents say the measure would spur job growth, increase tax revenue, and free up law enforcement to tackle more pressing problems.
"We have real crime to deal with in this city," Green told KDSK. She is expected to introduce this bill this morning at a Health and Human Services committee meeting. Check back for updates.
