Here are the top three stories today in St. Louis:

  1. A new live musical and theatrical tribute is highlighting St. Louis icons such as Josephine Baker, Tina Turner, and Maya Angelou. The show, “St. Louis Woman,” stars singer, songwriter, and actress LAKA as she performs the songs, dances, and poems of these icons and their remarkable lives. Catch this innovative performance at the .ZACK Theatre now through Oct. 22. (KSDK.com)
  2. Public health officials say the St. Louis County animal control department destroyed nearly 20,000 pounds of paper records after cockroaches and mice infested the documents. The infestation occurred at the animal shelter near North Lindbergh and Baur Boulevards, where workers discovered roughly 400 boxes had become infested. The county now faces criticism over destroying the documents without proper permission, as several records sought in ongoing lawsuits against the county were among the documents destroyed. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
  3. Police are investigating after a toddler fatally shot himself in a St. Louis neighborhood on Monday afternoon. Additional details about the shooting and victim were not immediately released, but authorities say the police child abuse unit is handling the investigation. The boy is one of nearly 20 children killed by gunfire this year across the metropolitan area. (KOMU 8)
