Man Charged After Being Shot By Police In Foot Chase

Police say Leontaye Combs had a gun and pointed it at the officer who shot him. St. Louis County Poice are investigating.

ST. LOUIS, MO — A St. Louis Metropolitan Police officer shot 23-year-old Leontaye Combs Saturday after Combs led police on a high-speed car chase followed by a foot chase. Police say Combs was driving a car that refused to pull over in a traffic stop. The car briefly escaped before being located by a police helicopter. When officers arrived, Police say Combs fled on foot. After entering a residential yard, police say Combs pointed a gun at an officer, who "feared for his life" and opened fire.

Officials did not say why police attempted to stop Combs in the first place. No video of the shooting has been released.

Combs was treated at a local hospital and released into police custody. He has been charged with assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. He is held on $150,000 cash-only bail.

Police said the officer who shot Combs is 30 years old and a six-year veteran of the force. His name was not released. Combs was the only person injured in the shooting.
