ST. LOUIS, MO — Police say a man in his 40s was fatally shot in St. Louis' Soulard neighborhood early Tuesday morning. The man was found outside the Bastille nightclub, near the intersection of Menard Street and Russell Boulevard, around 12:20 a.m. Witnesses say he may have been a bartender there, Fox 2 St. Louis reports.
Last year St. Louis cracked its 25-year murder record. Per capita, the city ranks third for homicides in the United States and first for non-fatal shootings, according to data from the FBI and Major Cities Chiefs Association.
The city is approaching its 70th homicide this year, while this is just the fifth killing in Soulard in the last decade. The neighborhood features many bars, restaurants and clubs, and is one of the city's most popular entertainment districts.
