It's also unclear how the man arranged the sale, but police say to take sensible precautions when conducting Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist exchanges. Meet only in crowded, public places. Tell family and friends where you're going and when you'll be back. Carry a cellphone, and if possible, don't go alone. Many police departments around the country have also begun encouraging users to meet in their parking lots, so call your local police department to see if they are participating.
