Massive Fire At Vacant Apartment Building In East St. Louis

Firefighters are battling a huge fire in the St. Louis area for the second time in less than a week.

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL — A cloud of black smoke rose high into the skies over East St. Louis Monday morning as firefighters worked to battle an apartment fire. Fire officials said no one was in the building when it went up, and that it was too soon to determine the cause.

East St. Louis Fire Chief Jason Blackmon said firefighters responded around 7 a.m. this morning and quickly got the fire under control. The apartment building is located next to a gas station near the intersection of North 25th Street and Louisiana Blvd., but crews worked to ensure the fire did not spread.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
