Missouri ACLU Sues St. Louis For Police Misconduct

Did St. Louis police act unconstitutionally in recent protests over the Stockley verdict? A federal judge will decide.

ST. LOUIS, MO — The American Civil Liberties Union Of Missouri believes police acted unconstitutionally at recent protests throughout the city. Arbitrary arrests, indiscriminate use of chemical irritants, and a controversial tactic known as "kettling," where protesters are asked to disperse then not permitted to do so, are among the allegations. Now, the group has asked a federal judge to weigh in on the issue.

KDSK St. Louis reports:

Handcuffed, pepper sprayed and arrested. Many people who were at the protests following the Jason Stockley decision last month said that was their experience, and they testified about it in federal court Wednesday.

It's all part of a class action lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against the city of St. Louis.

Lawyers for the ACLU and the city of St. Louis continued their arguments in court this morning. City officials refused to comment on pending litigation.
