St. Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page announced five changes to public health protocols Monday morning. County Executive Page during a press conference on March 8, 2021. The first change he announced was that all businesses can now stay open until midnight. Previously, there was an 11 p.m. curfew. Capacity at restaurants and bars will remain at 50%, according to Dr. Page. "It will give us more sales, but its more about the experience for the customer getting to enjoy our place a little longer," said Brett Syberg, the owner of Helen Fitzgerald's. Syberg was referring to the changes being made just before St. Patrick's Day, which is a busy time for Helen Fitzgerald's. With many local St. Patrick Day parades canceled, Syberg is hoping his restaurant will provide a safe alternative. "I think it will be a great St. Paddy's Day for us, we're still going to follow the guidelines, we hope the weather is beautiful so we can all be outside too, but it will be fantastic to have that extra hour now," he said. However, not all restaurants in St. Louis County are sure the extra hour will be helpful. Dan Schultz, the manager at Fallon's Bar and Grill in Olivette, is working odd jobs around the restaurant to make up for the small number of employees. He says he is not sure if he has enough staff to let customers stay until midnight on St. Patrick's.
