Police Chase Ends In Six-Vehicle Crash

Chief Tim Swope said the pursuit was in line with department policies, despite the crash.

ST. LOUIS, MO — County police chased a suspected carjacker Monday afternoon through Wellston, Mo. and St. Louis' Central West End, ending in a six-vehicle crash that left three injured, including the carjacker, whom officials say is in critical condition.

Police said the car had been stolen by an armed man in Pagedale, Mo. earlier the same day. "We do not pursue for anything other than dangerous felonies," North County Police Cooperative Chief Tim Swope told the Post-Dispatch, arguing that the pursuit was in line with department policies.

The North County Police Cooperative serves several municipalities in north St. Louis County.
