Six-Year-Old Boy Paralyzed After Gunshot To The Head

Markel Taylor, 6, is partially paralyzed after being shot in the head. His family is asking for donations to help cover his med. expenses.

ST. LOUIS, MO — Markel Taylor, 6 years old, was shot in September as he sat with his stepfather and brother in a parked car after football practice. The bullet struck him in the head. Miraculously, Taylor survived, but the wound left him partially paralyzed on the right side of his body. Doctors say the paralysis is permanent. But Ashley Dilworth, the boy's mother, told KMOV St. Louis, she has faith in a higher power. For more than 40 days and nights, she's been by her son's bedside almost constantly.

Dilworth said she prays daily not just for her son, but for her city. "Put down the guns, St. Louis. It's not fair to the kids. It's not fair to anybody," she told KMOV.

On 9/12/17 Markel was returning home from football practice with his stepdad and brother when the vehicle they were in was ambushed. Markel was tragically shot in the side of his head. Markel was listed in critical, unstable condition at the time. He was expected to be paralyzed on his whole right side. With the Grace of God he has start to gain feeling in his right leg. He's trying to take steps. He finds his strength from being strong like The Hulk! Markel is currently in a wheelchair and receiving therapy to gain more independence.

We are asking for donations. Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated. The money will be used for continuing therapy, purchasing him a wheelchair, medical expenses and financial assistance for his mother. Thank You for supporting Markel's family in this difficult time.

So far, the page has raised $225, just a drop in the bucket compared to expected medical expenses of more than $30,000.

Police have not identified any suspects in the shooting, which they believe was random.
