St. Louis Man Indicted On Child Porn Charges

William T. Hopmeier is being held without bond. "No conditions of bond can ensure the community's safety," prosecutors said in a motion.

ST. LOUIS, MO — William T. Hopmeier, a 47-year-old man from St. Louis, has been indicted in federal court on child pornography charges. Prosecutors say he recorded video of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He is being held without bond. "Because of defendant's present charge, there is a presumption that no conditions of bond can ensure the community's safety," prosecutors said in court documents.

If Hopmeier is convicted, he faces 15 to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, plus a supervised release period of no less than five years. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

The case is being investigated by the St. Louis County Police Department, the Des Peres Police Department and the FBI.
