St. Louis Police Officer Shoots Recruit While Trying To Shoot Dog

The recruit is expected to recover. The dog's condition isn't clear.

ST. LOUIS, MO — A 29-year-old police recruit was shot in her wrist Saturday by a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Officer, according to a statement from Police Chief John Hayden. According to police, a pit bull lunged at the officer, who opened fire at the dog. One of the officer's bullets struck the recruit.

The recruit is expected to recover in time for graduation on October 11. The Associated Press reports the Humane Society picked up the dog after the shooting, but it's not clear if the animal survived.
