- This weekend, St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones signed Board Bill 82, which will allocate $37 million in American Rescue Plan Act Funds to North St. Louis. The money will be used toward fostering small businesses and providing them with the financial resources they need to succeed and grow. About $2 million of the money will go towards the City’s Americans with Disabilities Act implementation plan. (St. Louis American)
- There will be three upcoming events to honor an East St. Louis native’s decades-long career as a religious leader and an educator. Rev. Joseph Brown served 60 years with the Jesuit religious order, 50 years as a priest, and 25 years as an Africana studies professor at SIU. From May 13-15, there will be a dinner, symposium, and Catholic mass held in his honor and community members are welcome to attend. (Belleville News-Democrat)
- In light of an increase in gun violence among school-aged children and in an effort to promote gun safety, St. Louis Public Schools District handed out gun locks to parents. The gun locks were optional for parents to pick up and many took advantage in order to keep their kids safe. (KTVI Fox 2 St. Louis)
