Two 19th-Century Tiaras Stolen From Missouri History Museum
The gem-encrusted tiaras date back to the late 1800s, when they were awarded to debutantes during the annual Veiled Prophet Ball.

ST. LOUIS, MO — Have you seen a priceless gem-encrusted tiara lying around? You may want to look, because the Missouri History Museum announced Wednesday that two are missing. Museum officials believe they were stolen.
More than 100 years old, the gold and silver tiaras date back to the late 1800s when they were awarded to debutantes at the Veiled Prophet Ball, a dance still held in St. Louis each December.
In 1974, the city also began holding a Veiled Prophet Fair at the riverfront. The fair was renamed Fair St. Louis in 1992 and moved to Forest Park a few years ago because of construction on the riverfront.
