Here are the top 3 stories today in St. Louis:
- St. Louis benefactor Joanne Knight has committed $11.5 million to the Washington University School of Medicine to support a clinical trial aimed at preventing Alzheimer’s disease. The trial will attempt to combat the disease by treating people before the first signs of the illness appear in the brain. The university’s long-running Alzheimer’s prevention initiative will be named after the Knight family in recognition of the historic gift. (Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis)
- City of St. Louis preservation officials are protesting a plan to partially demolish and reuse the historic Engineers’ Club in the Central West End. The demolition would serve to help develop a new seven-story apartment complex at the location on Lindell Boulevard. Opponents of the development say the construction of a large apartment complex would be a "significant loss" to the city's architectural heritage. (KSDK.com)
- Prism STL, a new LGBTQ bar, is set to open in St. Louis early next year. The bar will take residence in the Monocle’s former building on Manchester Avenue and will include a cocktail lounge, outdoor patio, and cabaret stage. The addition of Prism follows the closing of many prominent LGBTQ bars in the city over the past year. (Riverfront Times)
