Woman, Ex-Husband Sentenced In Illegal Sports Gambling Scheme
Carol Jean Hazer and her ex-husband, Samuel Douglas Hazer, were each sentenced to a year and a day in prison.

ST. LOUIS, MO — A Farmington woman, Carol Jean Hazer, and her ex-husband, Samuel Douglas Hazer, were each sentenced to a year and a day in prison for running an illegal sports betting business and filing false tax returns that omitted the gambling income, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri.
Prosecutors said the pair ran an illegal high stakes sports betting operation online, laundering the money through house and vehicle purchases and filing false tax returns to hide the proceeds of their crimes. Court documents reveal they earned nearly half a million dollars in illegal revenue between 2008 and 2014.
The case was investigated by the FBI and IRS. Both Hazer and her husband pleaded guilty to a number of felonies in October and were sentenced this week in federal court in St. Louis.
