BILLINGS, MT — Cities and counties across the country continue to bring back many of the traditional Independence Day activities that were either canceled or modified the last two years. The Fourth of July is just around the corner, so it's time to find out fireworks and festivities happening in the area this year.

We have all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Billings so you can start planning now.

July 4 Festivities

What: "Celebrate Freedom" fireworks at the Metra - billed as a "high-flying and professional show" choreographed with music by Pyro F/X. Music will blast through loudspeakers and into the parking lots and nearby business lots. It will also air on 97.1 Kiss FM and 102.9 Cat Country. Food trucks and live music will be available at the outdoor pavilion at MetraPark. Attendees are advised to bring chairs and rain (or shine) gear.

Where: Upper MetraPark parking lot. No parking or viewing allowed in the upper lot, but there will be parking and viewing spots nearby.

When: 7 p.m. - After dark (July 4)


What: Roundup Independence Day Extravaganza - the nearly century-long, multi-day event in Roundup, Montana, brings people together from across the state. RIDE, as it's affectionately called, features live music, parades, fireworks, kids activities, the MidWay West Carnival, a rodeo and a family-friendly top shot competition.

Wristbands get attendees into two nights of entertainment and can be bought online, as well as at several local businesses and the entrance gate. RIDE wristbands will get attendees into: Caleb Johnson & The Ramblin' Saints; Top Shot Competition; Kids Kountry; Ben & Noel Haggard; and Laine Hardy. Children's bands are about $7 each, including an additional fee, and bands for people ages 13 and up are about $50, including the fee.

Attendees can expect golfing and carnival rides, as well as a bounce house, veterans parade, vintage car and tractor show, and bird walk. The parades, fireworks and bird walk are all free. The PRCA rodeo and Midway Carnival cost extra and are not covered by the wristband.
