📰 News we're reading

• Photo: Crews break ground on new clinic at Eagle Seeker Community Center (billingsgazette.com) — Work has started on the new Eagle Seeker Clinic at 1125 Broadwater Ave, part of a $33 million expansion of the Eagle Seeker Community Center in Billings. Run by the Native American Development Corporation, the project will expand medical services and redevelop 5.5 surrounding acres to better serve American Indians living in the city and support the nonprofit’s continued growth.

• 'Disbelief': Billings property owners upset by city reinstating late fees for water bills (ktvq.com) — Billings residents with overdue city water bills face late fees and potential shutoffs starting Jan. 12, with about 300 of the largest delinquent accounts targeted first. After months of dispute over alleged overbilling tied to new software, some property and business owners remain frustrated but are paying to avoid shutoffs, while the city offers 12‑month payment plans to keep water flowing.

• Urban Foragers Are Mapping Edible Plants Around the World (sentientmedia.org) — Billings residents can use the Falling Fruit map to find edible plants in nine city parks, part of the Parkland Gleaning Project aimed at sharing extra harvest with neighbors facing hunger. City forestry staff hope to expand plantings, revive interest in treats like chokeberry lattes and purple sourdough, and collect local recipes so more people feel confident cooking what they forage.
