- An urban camper in Bozeman was charged with attempted deliberate homicide after allegedly stabbing another camper on Jul. 7. Despite this incident, local police assert that there has not been an increase in crime within homeless communities. Detective Captain Dana McNeil explained that these communities often face challenges related to mental health and substance abuse, and crimes like these tend to involve individuals who know each other rather than random acts. (KBZK News)
- Following brain surgery to remove a glioblastoma tumor, a fundraiser has been started for Bozeman City Commissioner I-Ho Pomeroy to cover medical expenses, treatment, and other associated costs. Serving on the Bozeman City Commission for a decade, Pomeroy is also known for her restaurant, I-Ho's Korean Grill. While awaiting official updates on her status, Pomeroy expressed her desire to revisit her home country of Korea. (KBZK News)
- The budgeting process in Bozeman has been challenging due to inflationary pressures and significant increases in costs for materials, services, and health insurance. Property taxes are expected to decrease by 4.2 percent in the upcoming fiscal year, while sewer fees and water charges may increase by 2.8 percent if approved by city commissioners. The city's budget proposal aims to promote fiscal responsibility, potentially providing job opportunities for the Bozeman Police Department and allocating $1.5 million in grants to organizations such as HRDC, Streamline, and Family Promise.
