1. Holiday season linked to rise in cardiac emergencies, paramedics say (kbzk.com) — Bozeman paramedics say they see about 30% more cardiac emergencies on Christmas Eve and warn residents not to ignore chest pain or other heart attack symptoms. They link the spike to holiday stress, travel, and heavy food and alcohol, and urge locals to learn bystander CPR through classes offered by the American Red Cross and Bozeman Health.

2. 'His love': The Legacy of Stan Veltkamp, a Montana Santa for 40 years (kxlf.com) — Gallatin Valley readers are remembering longtime Manhattan-area Santa Stan Veltkamp, whose four decades of visits included beloved stops at Hyalite School and around the Bozeman area. His widow, Marty, shares how his gentle chuckle, free appearances, and dedication to every child—especially those with special needs—created a legacy of kindness that still shapes local holiday traditions.

3. Grizzly presence confirmed in the Bangtail Mountains northeast of Bozeman (dailyinterlake.com) — A grizzly bear has been confirmed in the Bangtail Mountains just northeast of Bozeman, marking the first presence there in at least 50 years and prompting new safety reminders. Wildlife officials say grizzlies are expanding into more of Montana and urge residents and recreators near Bozeman to carry bear spray, secure garbage and attractants, and stay alert as bear activity continues even into winter.

4. After loss of federal dollars, two Montana radio stations awarded grants to stay open (mtpr.org) — Bozeman’s own KGLT just secured a $200,000 grant to keep its alternative public radio service on the air despite major federal funding cuts. Alongside Fort Belknap’s KGVA, the station can now refocus on programming, including new children’s content, instead of emergency fundraising and survival planning.

5. More Montanans cutting Christmas trees in national forests (bozemandailychronicle.com) — If you’ve ever cut a Christmas tree in the Custer Gallatin between Yellowstone and Bozeman, you’re part of a fast-growing Montana tradition. Forest Service data show Christmas tree permits have jumped 34% since 2016, with Custer Gallatin leading the state and officials saying careful cutting can actually improve forest health and wildfire resilience.

  • I had 4 massive trays of homemade cookies from a catering event last night and would love to donate them somewhere today to brighten up some people’s holiday.
Does anyone know where I could donate these? Again- they’re fresh, not packaged, so they probably couldn’t go to a food bank type situation. Thank… (Nextdoor Bozeman Ponds)
  • We were sledding at Hyalite lake yesterday.
Our friend from Australia dropped his phone: blue iPhone 12 Pro with a clear case. Please let me know if it is spotted! (Nextdoor North East Neighborhood Association)
