New, county-led mental health services in the works (montanafreepress.org) — Cascade County is working to launch a new mental health stabilization center and mobile crisis team to again serve Great Falls residents, while a prior mobile unit ended in 2023. Locals should also note a data breach affecting some Benefis patients, free downtown holiday parking through Dec. 28, and Tuesday’s 5 p.m. swearing-in and 7 p.m. city commission meeting at the Civic Center.

2. MDT planning road project near Malmstrom AFB for 2027 (theelectricgf.com) — A major pavement and safety upgrade is planned for 57th Street on Great Falls’ east side, stretching from 2nd Avenue North to near 10th Avenue South, with construction tentatively set for 2027. The project will resurface the road, remove certain left turns at 8th Avenue South, add new lighting and signage, and residents are invited to call MDT’s Great Falls district engineers with questions or comments.

3. Montana Governor Donates Salary To Great Falls Student Program (1075thepeak.com) — A long-running Great Falls High School House program just received a $20,694.79 boost from Governor Greg Gianforte, who donated part of his salary to support local students’ hands-on homebuilding work. The partnership between NeighborWorks and Great Falls Public Schools helps teens learn construction skills while creating affordable homes for first-time buyers, often first-generation homeowners, in the community.

4. 154 New Homes Coming Soon To Great Falls (963theblaze.com) — Great Falls is set to gain 154 new manufactured homes at Seventh Avenue North and 42nd Street after the City Commission approved a new development by Missoula-based Nine Blessings. While most commissioners backed the project to address housing needs, one opposed it over concerns about risks to low- and moderate-income residents, as other projects also promise more homes in Great Falls.

5. River's Edge Trail closure near Black Eagle Dam Dec. 16 for NWE project (theelectricgf.com) — If you use River’s Edge Trail near Black Eagle Dam, expect full closures on both shores today, Dec. 16, while crews pour concrete and move heavy equipment for a major spillway upgrade. The work, centered near NorthWestern Energy’s Great Falls office and Black Eagle Memorial Island Park, will strengthen the dam, reduce winter ice hazards, and may cause intermittent trail delays throughout the project.
