Stolen vehicle, thefts and fraud: Here are Helena police incidents from Dec. 12 (helenair.com) — Helena residents can see how local police spent December 12, with officers handling a stolen vehicle arrest, welfare checks, fraud and theft reports, and multiple warrant arrests across town. In all, Helena Police responded to 85 calls for service, ranging from traffic incidents to animal bites and suspicious activity.
   

2. Estate of man killed at Jesters Bar sues city and officers (kbzk.com) — Helena residents should know that the estate of Paul Rolfes has filed a lawsuit against the City of Helena and several police officers over the 2024 fatal shooting at Jester’s Bar downtown. The suit alleges constitutional violations and failures in handling Rolfes’ mental health, and seeks a jury trial plus compensatory and punitive damages.
   

3. The NFR is a Wrap in Vegas, How the Montanans Performed (kmhk.com) — Helena rodeo fans have plenty to cheer about after hometown bareback rider Sam Petersen captured the NFR average title in Las Vegas on his first trip to the event. Fellow Helena competitor Ty Erickson also notched a Round 6 win, capping a strong showing for Montana cowboys on the sport’s biggest stage.
   

4. Fish and Wildlife Commission votes to reduce nonresident deer licenses (bonnercountydailybee.com) — Meeting in Helena, the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission voted to cut about 2,500 nonresident deer licenses and sharply limit how many deer hunters can take each season. The move aims to ease hunting pressure on public lands and help struggling mule deer populations recover, though it may reduce agency revenue and affect small businesses tied to nonresident hunters.
