Here are the top three stories today in Helena:

  1. The roughly year-long stall of work on Custer Avenue is expected to come to an end within the next few months. Helena city officials and the state transportation department are set to come to terms on the project, which is meant to widen Custer Avenue from three to five lines, provide improved pedestrian access, and realign utilities under the thoroughfare from Montana Avenue through to the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds. City Manager Tim Burton stated that final decisions haven't been made yet, but the Montana Department of Transportation will likely pass management of the project over to the Helena city government. (Independent Record)
  2. Helena High's Henry Ballinger has broken the track record set by Aidan Reed seven years ago. On the second day of the Western AA Divisional Track and Field meet, Bengals senior Henry Ballinger broke Reed's record in the mile by three-tenths of a second, coming in at four minutes, 19.82 seconds.(406mtsports.com)
  3. The City of Helena plans to resume work on the Easy Rider Trail from May 22 through 26. The project will move a portion of the trail off of private property to the City's Open Lands. The current easy rider trail will remain open until work is complete. Rerouting the trail is expected to take roughly three weeks. (City of Helena, Local Government on Facebook)
