  1. On Monday, Jun. 12, the first youth-led constitutional climate change lawsuit, Held v. Montana, delivered opening statements in Helena. According to the 16 youth plaintiffs from across Montana, the state violated their constitutional right to a clean and healthful environment. Lewis and Clark District Court Judge Kathy Seeley will preside over the bench trial, which will focus on a provision in the Montana Environmental Policy Act (MEPA). (Montana Free Press)
  2. On Jun. 12, the City of Helena unanimously agreed on the Trap, Neuter, and Release Program (TNR) at the City Commission Meeting. The program is expected to help manage the number of feral cats in Helena. There are six to seven colonies of feral cats and each colony has between 10 and 20 cats, according to city documents.   • On Thursday morning, Jun. 15, the main Mount Helena Trailhead above Reeder’s Village will be closed for a few hours due to necessary maintenance.   • On Jun. 13, Mica Kantor, a 15-year-old high school athlete, testified that smoke from forest fires has made it difficult to compete in the climate change lawsuit being held in Helena. Kantor said a doctor prescribed an inhaler to help with his breathing problems due to the smoke. (Fox 2 Now)
